CONSULTATIONS - WHAT TO EXPECT

When you make an appointment for a consultation, I will send you a letter confirming the appointment.  I will also send you a form to complete and send back to me before the appointment.

The form asks a lot of detail about you: personal details, family medical history, your medical history, and some questions that might seem quite unimportant, such as What side to you sleep on? How are your symptoms in the sun? How much do you drink each day?

The form also asks you to think about some other things such as, What makes you angry? What do you think is behind your condition?

Once I have that form I can begin to consider your situation.  It also saves time in the consultation room.  It means there is more time for you to talk about what is bothering you.

While you are talking, I will be thinking about you and and what you are saying in terms of homeopathic remedies.  I may need to check in one of two books - a Repertory or a  Material Medica - to confirm my choice of remedy for you.

Hopefully, before you leave I will make up the remedy for you to take away - little white pillules.  Otherwise I will send it through the post to you.

You will be given clear instruction about what to do with them, how often to take them, etc and when to contact me with feed back.

We will make a follow-up appointment for anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks, depending on your condition.

I may give you a small bottle of herbal tincture as well as homeopathic remedies.  Herbal tincture can be very helpful in 'supporting' particular organs, for instance: Milk Thistle is very helpful with particular digestive problems, especially if someone enjoys a few glasses of wine of an evening.

I may also give you a small bottle of flower essences.  You may know of Rescue Remedy.  That is a combination of several Bach Flower Essences.  There are a large number of different sorts of flower essences.  I use a group called Australian Flower Essences.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long will I need treatment?

The easy answer is that there is no easy answer!  For some, their symptoms change fairly quickly.  For others, it may be that I don't quite get it right the first time.  It could be that things begin changing slowly and that you need to continue until the change is complete. Every case is different.

Are there any side effects?

No.  The dilution process refines the remedies removing any toxic effects.

Some people say that my condition has to get worse before it gets better.

Yes, I know some people say that and there are different ways of looking at that phenomenon.  One school of thinking is that the "getting worse" is a "healing crisis", a way that your body's defenses are being mobilised to begin a healing process.  After all these years, I am not sure what happens since no two people react the same.  I do try to avoid symptoms getting worse, especially conditions that are painful or skin conditions, such as excema.  So in those cases, there won't necessarily be any "healing crises".

Can I continue taking my medication?

Yes. and I will never tell you to stop taking your medication.  That is between you and your GP or specialist.

I'm pregnant.  Are homeopathic remedies safe for me to take?

Yes, they are.  In fact, it is thought that during pregnancy is an excellent time to take homeopathic remedies.  All the body's systems are operating on full alert so will be very receptive to the energy of a remedy.  Besides, the lack of side effects make it an ideal way of dealing with some annoying conditions that arise during pregnancy, such as morning sickness.
